After letting the bird feeders empty during a recent trip, the little birds are finally coming back. Yesterday a pair of Oak Nuthatches let me get within 4 feet of them while they nibbled on a suet cake. This morning a House Finch and his lady visited one of the seed feeders.

I got my Nikon and 300mm lens out and learned a few things about manual focus. I set it up on a tripod in the backyard, pointed at a bird feeder, but the birds weren’t cooperating and I was distracted with kids. I’m looking forward to trying again soon. I don’t have any good photos of backyard birds.
